[SEMU-YÉOL LECTURE] November 2019

Cooking Class: Koreans’ Favorite Oils

Lecturer: Hwang Jeong A

CEO of Tasty K

In this lecture, we will learn about Koreans’ favorite culinary oils. Sesame oil is commonly loved by East Asian countries including Korea, China, and Japan, but perilla oil is particularly more favored by Koreans. We will take a closer look into sesame seed, perilla seed, perilla leaf, and the process of pressing to extract oil. A tasting session with sesame oil, perilla oil and unroasted sesame oil and perilla oil will be prepared to compare and understand each of its unique flavors. Using these oils, a culinary demonstration will be given at the cooking session which entails making three different cuisines, and tasting the dish. All of the cooking ingredients used for the menu will be locally grown, seasonal
produce.
