Go Hui-dong’s Korean Traditional House in Wonseo-dong, Seoul (Registered Cultural Property No. 84) is a “hanok” or traditional wooden house built by the Korean painter Go Hui-dong in 1918, who designed the house after returning from his studies overseas. It served as his home for 41 years. Go Hui-dong was the first Korean painter in using the Western style of painting, and is acclaimed for his work as an educator of Western painting techniques, the founder and leader of the school of Western art, and for his role as the administrator and advocate of visual arts. YÉOL worked together with the Jongno District Office and the National Trust Cultural Heritage Fund, a non-profit cultural heritage preservation organization, to restore the property, which opened to the public in 2012. YÉOL supported the landscaping work at Go Hui-dong’s House as part of the initiative to preserve the Korean cultural heritage from the early modern period.
