Korean temple food has a 1,700-year-old tradition with
tastes that have been long-cherished. Korean Temple cuisine refers to all the
food and drink consumed daily at Buddhist temples, food that is accompanied by
gratitude for life and prayers for peace. From the cultivation of individual
ingredients to the making of the food itself, the entire preparation process is
regarded as part of the practice of Buddhism.
Temple cuisine is prepared with full devotion, much like
the food that is offered to Buddha. All dishes are shared and eaten equally.
The participants will take a cooking class comprised of two courses of temple
cuisine with a Buddhist monk and an interpreter. All menus use natural
ingredients that are in season.
Korean Temple
Food Center is the first cultural complex in Korea that was
established to spread the knowledge about Korean temple food. The Center
provides various exhibitions, hands-on experiences, and educational programs.
