“The Preservation of Bukchon:Historical Background and Contemporary Influence”

This presentation will begin with a discussion of life and accomplishments of King Sejong the Great (1397-1450, r. 1418-1450), the creator of Hangeul.  The presentation will then discuss the philosophical and linguistic principles behind Hangeul that reflect King Sejong’s search for a perfect system of Korean language. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of King Sejong the Great’s efforts to promote the use of Hangeul during the final years of his life.
